I was born in 1965 in Ernakulam district of Kerala. My father, Mr. L. Sanjeev Pai, retired as the General Manager of Canara Bank, My Mother, Mrs.Vasantha Kumari, is a house wife. I did my schooling in Kolkata and Bangalore. I completed my MBBS successfully (all examinations in single attempt in first division) from the Armed Forces Medical College Pune in Nov 1987. Subsequently I worked as an intern for 6 months in King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and the next 6 months in Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital, Bangalore. I joined the direct 5 Year Neurosurgery DNBE Programme in Madras Medical College, Madras in 1989 and successfully completed the same in 1995 passing all the four examinations of the course in single attempt.
A step-by-step pictorial atlas on most of the neurosurgical procedures performed across the country. Comprises 21 sections with around 155 chapters written by various experts in the field and are simple and easily understandable. It includes most of the procedures performed on the brain and spine. Each chapter has an introduction (with radiological imaging), position and procedure with systematic steps all corroborated by appropriate photographs and illustrations along with the authors' tips.
I have forsaken a lucrative corporate position for establishing an academic and service department in the public sector at BMCRI. The desire to make an impact on the neurosurgical services in Karnataka and help in a small way in alleviation of human suffering has been the driving force for me through my life. Medical teaching (Neurosurgical in particular) is extremely close to my heart and I have imparted all the knowledge at my disposal to the best of my ability. With God's grace I was able to establish a modern Neurosurgical department of Excellence in BMCRI and also make it into an MCh training centre. Service and Teaching Purposes are both being served here. Providentially, I was also given a chance to make a small albeit significant contribution to the Health Care scenario in Karnataka by commissioning and running the Trauma Care Centre.
