TRAUMA CARE CENTRE, BMCRI, COMMISSIONING:

This was arguably the most challenging period in his entire career. He along with a team of Core Committee was entrusted the challenging task of commissioning the Trauma Care Centre which was already built and lying vacant for 6 years in August of 2015. The problems that they encountered included: civil structural inadequacies and modifications including literally constructing New OTs, equipment issues and installation, human resource inadequacies and scores of such miscellaneous problems. However, the team was able to face and solve all these problems one by one. The Hon Min of Med Ed, Dr Sharanaprakash Patil, and all the secretaries gave him their unstinted support for which he always expresses his gratitude. He started the Trauma Care Centre in a phased manner beginning in December 2015. In the meantime, he was made the first Special Officer of this centre in October, 2015. Dr Asima Banu was made the first Nodal Officer of this facility in April 2016. She has been the backbone of the administration and has discharged her duties with all sincerity and enviable devotion. Formal Inauguration of the Trauma Care Centre was held on May 17th, 2016 by the Hon Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah. He has been given some administrative and financial autonomy which has been wisely utilized by him. It is now the biggest Trauma Care Centre in the country and is a shining example of how a state government hospital can work efficiently. It is a 200 bedded facility with state-of-the-art OTs and ICU and with its own radiology wing and laboratory. "A captain is only as good as his team” is his favourite quote. He humbly claims that his contribution in this venture can only be judged in the context of the support he received from his team and his superiors between whom he served as a bridge. This reveals his magnanimity and willingness to give due credit to those working under him.

  • The Trauma Care Centre Got NABH Safe I certification. This was achieved in the shortest time compared to any hospital in the private or public sector.
  • The Trauma Care Centre was also recognised by the Hindu Group in The Doyens as one of the best hospitals in Karnataka. Dr S. Balaji Pai, as the first Special Officer, received a citation for his exemplary service and commitment in improving Health Care in Karnataka from The Hindu Group.
  • The trauma care centre received the Kayakalp award for the best hospital in Bangalore in 2018-2019 (a government quality assurance agency) and again in 2022-23.
  • SIMULATION and SKILLS CENTRE

Along with the then DME, Dr. Sachidanand, he was involved in the sanctioning, planning, tendering, construction and commissioning of the Simulation and Skills Centre in BMCRI. It is a state-of-the-art centre and arguably the best of its kind in the country. It was a Rs 23 crore turnkey project. It will train trainers, Undergraduate and postgraduate students, interns, faculty and nursing and paramedical students. Dr Asima Banu was made the first director of this facility. Again, this was another demonstration of his commitment to medical education.

TRAUMA CARE CENTRE, GIMS, KALABURAGI, COMMISSIONING:

The Trauma Care Centre in GIMS was constructed and inaugurated. However, it was not commissioned for many years.
